Full-time, Monday - Friday, term time only (39 weeks per year)

Temporary to permanent

£450 per week

Unique School Solutions are working in partnership with a specialist school in Barnsley (S71) to recruit SEMH Teaching Assistants to start in September 2024. These roles are full-time, term time only. Initially, the roles will be temporary with the opportunity to secure a permanent contract following a successful probation period.

The school have high expectations of their pupils; they work hard to build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively; support pupils to access a broad range of subjects and qualifications, including GCSEs; and provide opportunities and facilities for pupils to develop special interests and talents through a range of extra-curricular activities.

This role will require the applicant to have a formal Team Teach (minimum level 2) qualification. This training can be provided for the successful candidate prior to the start of the placement.

About the role

* Supporting the academic and personal development of children both in and out of the classroom.

* Getting the classroom ready for lessons, listening to children read, helping children who need extra support, helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records, supporting teachers in managing class behaviour, supervising group activities and looking after children who are upset or have had accidents.

* Establishing good relationships with pupils, acting as a role model and being aware of and responding appropriately to individual needs.

* Attend to pupils’ personal needs including social, health, physical, hygiene, first aid and welfare matters.

* Supervise and support pupils ensuring their safety and access to learning.

* Support pupils to access learning activities as directed by the teacher and in line with their individual learning plans or targets.

* Support the teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment including preparing for lessons, clearing away and assisting with the display of pupils’ work.

* Support the teacher in managing pupil behaviour.

* Be aware of matters relating to, for example, pupil progress, welfare and behaviour and report to the teacher as agreed.

* Liaise sensitively and effectively with parents and carers as agreed with the teacher and in line with school policies.

The candidate will have

* GCSE Maths & English at grade C (or equivalent).

* Experience of working with children in any setting.

* Good understanding of child development and learning processes.

* A pragmatic ‘can do’ approach to tasks.
