Due to my clients continued growth and success of their Planning and Environmental Services, They are looking to appoint a suitable individual as a Senior Ecologist to oversee all ecological works for their projects.

The Role

The role will involve undertaking and managing ecological surveys in support of planning applications and projects throughout the UK. This will include field work as well as the organisation of subcontractors and specialist consultants. Report writing and desk-based works will also form part of the work schedule. Our expectation for the successful candidate will be to take on the responsibility of growing the ecological team under their guidance through business development and quality service.

Working as part of the wider team you would be expected to be an active part of the management and organisation of projects to ensure successful applications. The role will involve extensive teamwork as well as client management and fee proposals.

You will be expected to generate and maintain your own portfolio of projects and clients as well as supporting colleagues with their workloads.

Essential skills and experience:

• Associate (consultant) or Full (senior consultant) membership of CIEEM.
• Proven track record in consultancy, with experience of PEA, EcIA, and protected species surveys.
• Full UK drivers licence and access to own vehicle.
• Working knowledge of the Scottish planning system including planning policy and species survey/impact assessment guidance.
• Understanding of the risks and hazards associated with outdoor working and remote working.
• Willingness to stay away from home as required.

Desirable but NOT essential skills and experience:

• Bat Survey Licence Holder.
• Schedule 1 licence holder.
• Experience working in the renewables sector.
• A degree in a relevant ecological field.
• Expertise and licences in any of the following areas: great crested newt or higher- level botany.
• Experience as named ecologist on protected species derogation licences.
• Experience of ECoW work.
• CSCS Card Holder (ecologist).
• First aid trained.
• Off-road driver qualification.
• Health and safety qualifications.
• Tree climbing and aerial rescue qualification.
• Competence with QGIS/QField.
