Solicitor, Family Department - The Role
An exciting new opportunity for a Solicitor (1-2 years + PQE) to be based within our well respected and experienced Family Department.
This is an excellent opportunity to work within our prestigious practice which offers a supportive working environment, flexible working and attractive salary and benefits package.
Working in one of Scotland's most recognised and leading practices in this area the successful candidate will have exposure to a wide range of cases including separation, divorce, residence and contact disputes. It is essential that the right candidate will have experience in financial provision on divorce.
Key Responsibilities;
• Managing caseloads and advising clients on a wide range of family law issues such as contact, residence, divorce,
some financial provision.
• Meeting with clients on a daily basis- face to face and via video call and the telephone.
• Appearing in Court conducting procedural hearings, Child Welfare Hearings, and Proofs.
• Assessing clients for Legal Aid and completing applications using the Legal Aid Online System.
• Drafting court documents including Initial Writs, Pleadings, Defences and Affidavits.
• Negotiating settlements to cases with other agents .
• Researching/keeping up to date with developments in case law and legislation.
• Liaising with solicitors, Sheriff Clerks and other agencies via telephone, email and correspondence.
• Instructing Counsel where matters are considered to be complex.
Solicitor, Family Department - Qualifications/skills required to perform role:
The role requires a strong team player who is confident, empathetic, and has excellent communication and client care skills.
• Qualified Solicitor, with 1-2 years + PQE.
• You will demonstrate an excellent academic record, be well organised, able to prioritise and work under pressure
and to demanding deadlines and demonstrate meticulous attention to detail.
• You will be able to work both independently and also assist other members of the team in complex cases.
• Commercial awareness and business development experience is essential for this role.
