Senior Mechanical Design Engineer Warwickshire, UK

£60-70k + bonus + benefits

This role requires an experienced mechanical design engineer with customer facing abilities that can technically lead design and development projects but be actively involved in the hands-on detailed design of automotive powertrain components and systems.

Key factor – good experience of designing components and systems with challenging thermal / cooling conditions. (e.g. electric motors, ICEs, battery packs, electronic packaging, etc)

Based in Leamington Spa.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - Requires:

* Proven experience within the design of components and systems for EV powertrain systems would be ideal (automotive, marine, off-highway, aerospace, etc)

* Relevant qualification in a suitable subject (e.g. degree in automotive engineering)

* Experience with the design of thermal management / cooling solutions for complex electromechanical systems (e.g. battery packs, electric motors, electronics systems)

* Excellent mechanical design capability (concept to optimised prototype) using high end 3D CAD tools (e.g. Catia, Solidworks, NX, etc)

* Excellent communications skills (working directly with customers / suppliers)

* Strong organisation skills (able to mentor junior engineers and technically lead projects)

* Experience of working in fast paced product development environments (e.g. automotive)

* Good appreciation of vehicle integration (mounting, brackets), insulation, packaging and rugged designs.

Other skills (beneficia) Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

* First hand experience of the design and packaging of battery packs for automotive EV applications (or similar) including cooling / thermal management

* Experience with the design of automotive EV powertrain components (inverter packaging, electric motor, transmission, etc)

* Experience with the design of components for other mobility platforms such as marine, aerospace, etc.

* Experience with the design / development of busbars for battery systems would be very useful.

* Experience of thermal analysis / CAE software would be useful (e.g. Ansys Fluent, Star CCM)

Our client is looking for Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a relevant degree to help take customer EV projects from concept to prototype. Experience of off-highway, military vehicle, marine, aerospace, or other vehicle powertrain systems could be considered but automotive is preferred. Experience of designing battery packs would be great.

This Senior Mechanical Design Engineer role is based onsite (hybrid working available) and is commutable from Birmingham. Redditch, Solihull, Nuneaton, Hinckley, Leamington Spa, Banbury, Daventry, Rugby, Coventry and Lutterworth
