Our client, based in Cambridge, is looking for an experienced designer to be their Innovation Consultant. Working within a variety of project teams, the Innovation Consultant will use their design expertise to solve a wide range of challenges.

Responsibilities will include:

* Using the design process to identify insights and translate these into solutions

* Taking a central role in championing the design thinking approach, bringing creative leadership to projects

* Making key decisions on how the creative aspects of projects should be executed

* Collaborating effectively in small teams with consultants from many other disciplines

* Liaising and building trust with clients

* Contributing to business development activities, including participating in client meetings and preparing proposals

* Communicating ideas, recommendations and conclusions to internal teams and external clients through presentations, workshops and reports

* Giving feedback and coaching junior designers to help them develop their skillsets

* Implementing tools and processes that help our client to deliver innovation more efficiently and effectively

* Helping specialists from other fields understand key design considerations

* Engaging with training and mentorship to further develop broad project management, business development, and client relationship skills.

Candidates will need to have the following skills and experience:

* Undergraduate degree in Product or Industrial Design

* Minimum 3 years’ experience working in a design role within a consultancy

* Experience in at least one of the following areas: Coordinating / leading teams to complete creative projects and/or fostering relationships of trust with clients or customers

* Solid understanding of user-centred design principles and methodologies

* Structured approach to creative problem solving

* Exceptional sketching and hands-on prototyping skills

* Attention to detail and a passion for creating new products and services

* Proficiency in the Adobe Create Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign)

* A skilled presenter and communicator able to articulately describe design processes and concepts to a wide range of audiences in a compelling way

* Motivated, curious, with a desire to advance quickly into a project management role and expand your skills in all directions

* Able to work independently, prioritise, and deliver on quick timescales and briefs

* Able to collaborate effectively within small teams, incorporate different perspectives and reach an agreed collective view

* Able to evaluate the feasibility of different ideas using your awareness of business and commercial considerations.

The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded mix of design training and industry experience. Candidates will need to demonstrate strong potential to develop into a skilled manager of complex innovation projects. There is the opportunity to undertake our client’s project management training programme. Experience using 3D CAD software and experience in sales processes would be advantageous
