About this client: Charlie (25) has a great sense of humour! He lives at home with his family. Charlie loves being in the company of others and hearing people chat about DVD’s, stories, history, funny things, and generally being silly! He has a long list of interests which include cinema, theatre, shopping, history, museums, transport and is always open to new ideas. Charlie has Cerebral Palsy and requires 24/7 care for all his care needs. He is full-time wheelchair user, requires 2:1 support for his manual handling (ceiling track hoists and mobile used) and is fed via a gastrostomy. Charlie is non-verbal but will use his own signs for important things (important to him). He will also make it very clear if he is happy or not, vocalising through laughter if happy and shouting if not. If Charlie is becoming very stressed, you will notice his breathing becomes very fast and at that point, he requires intervention to help calm and reassure him.
Overview of role: We are looking for a Full time SEN Support Worker / PA to work closely with Charlie and assist with all his care needs. He visits a day centre Monday to Thursday, which you will accompany him to, and assist him with the activities – he needs lots of encouragement to try things outside of his comfort zone! On Friday’s Charlie is at home and whilst at times he will want some down time with his iPad, you’re encouraged to use your initiative, be creative and find appropriate activities to do in the community - starting hydrotherapy is something the family are very keen to explore. There will also be the opportunity for overtime to cover sleeping night shifts, £75.00 Gross per night.
Who this job would suit: A great deal of energy, patience and a sense of humour are key for this position – the sillier you can be the better! Charlie really feeds off this energy and once you hear his ‘wicked’ laugh you will be ready to pull out all the stops. Charlie can become frustrated and fixated on certain activities so needs someone with an infinite amount of patience, great imagination, huge amounts of energy, drive and is physically fit.
What’s great about this job: We placed Charlie’s last Support Worker 17 years ago and she is still with him now! Fantastic rewarding role: the more you put in, the more you will get out. You will be joining a supportive family and team of 6 Support Workers. All-round, on-the-job training offered. The family holiday to Florida every year for two weeks (usually around mid/late September) and would love the Support Worker / PA to accompany them for at least half of the duration, all costs covered.
Who is recruiting for this role? Snap Care will be carrying out all recruitment including shortlisting, recruiter interviews and arranging employer interviews
