TEST TECHNICIAN (GC-MS)
BASED LIVINGSTON – SALARY COMPETITVE PLUS BENS
Based in Livingston, ESS Recruit’s client comprises of a group of European companies engaged in the design, development, manufacture and distribution of analytical systems, life science equipment and laboratory instruments with operations dating back to 1920.  Now part of a global multinational business, their gas chromatography division is looking to recruit a Test Technician to join the expanding production team.  The successful candidate will have a background in science / analytical chemistry with experience in gas chromatography and mass spectrometry desirable.

In this role you will be testing and validating composite Gas Chromatograph (GC) systems, according to general test standards and/or customer requirements. You will be troubleshooting in case of technical deviations or test specifications of an instrument.  Working in the custom-built laboratory you will assist in the testing of a new range of analytical products.
Responsibilities:
Connecting the instruments or detectors associated with the system to a test bench.
Mounting and connecting OEM samplers or OEM instruments to GCs.
Performing tests and measurements on the system and recording test data.
Troubleshooting the system and replacing defective parts
Consult with other parties if there are problems with Custom configurations.
Compiling “Manuals” for the use of the system
Preparing systems for shipping
Checking the gas network and ensuring timely ordering of test and carrier gases.
Drawing up complaint reports in case of deviation You’ll need experience working with gas chromatographs (GCs), or other analytical instruments in a laboratory and a relevant qualification or other technical/laboratory training.  You will perhaps have a qualification in science.  Candidates without a degree-level qualification that can demonstrate extensive relevant experience will also be considered.  Ideally you will understand the principles of Gas Chromatography and / or Mass Spectrometry.  If you are Analyst / Technician level with experience of GC-MS we would like to hear from you, especially if you have skills in; sample prep, routine analysis, instrument maintenance/troubleshooting, data processing and reporting data.  It would also be desirable for you to have experience of working in a production environment. Good PC skills and experience with ERP systems also beneficial, as would experience of Chromeleon, Clarity or Xcalibur.
