Data Protection Assistant

Location: Bessels Green or Peterborough - Hybrid 

Role Purpose:

The Data Protection Team is a busy team responsible for overseeing data protection compliance across the Markerstudy Group.

This role is to assist the Data Protection Team in providing data protection focused legal/regulatory advice, identifying data protection issues and monitoring data protection compliance.

The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an interest in data protection and have experience working in a busy work environment in a regulated company. A good knowledge of data protection law will be an advantage but is not essential as full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

Data Breaches

Assess any reports of data breaches and carry out initial risk assessment.
Ensure accurate records of data breaches are maintained.
Provide advice to the business on remedial actions and monitor completion of required actions.
Identify and flag high risk data breaches to the DPO immediately.
Prepare monthly and quarterly breach reports to strict deadlines.
Monitor breaches for trends and patterns and identify potential areas of improvement.

Team Support

Support the Data Protection Managers by carrying out research or collecting information as required.
Monitor the data protection inbox. 
Triage incoming data protection queries and carry out any necessary information gathering before allocating to Data Protection Managers.
Help maintain GDPR governance records (including records of processing).
Manage the Group’s registrations with the ICO, ensuring registrations are up to date and paid each year in line with regulatory requirements.
Assist the team with the production of documents such as reports and PowerPoint presentations.
Assist with the maintenance and monitoring of risk records for the Data Protection Team.
Monitor deadlines for work tasks and regulatory deadlines and ensure diaries are kept up to date.

Reporting

Receive and collate required statistics for internal reporting and assist the Data Protection Officer in creating monthly and quarterly reports ensuring the data is accurate and presented effectively.

General

Liaising with Experian to resolve customer credit check concerns.
Arrange room bookings, meetings etc for the team when required.   Arranging events where needed (e.g., training or team events).
Ensure the Data Protection Team filing system is operating effectively.
On occasion attend meetings for minute taking purposes where relevant and ensure all papers are collated beforehand and actions are completed afterwards.
Work with DPO on a regular basis to review work task logs.

Academic/Professional Skills 

1 year plus relevant work experience in a regulated environment.
Awareness of data protection law and willingness to develop data protection law knowledge.
Knowledge of the insurance industry is preferred. 
Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and ability to create clear reports to convey detailed information in a simple way is essential.
GCSEs at a level 4 (c) or above or Equivalent

Great written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to understand business processes and to provide recommendations for compliance requirements.
Is a confident, self-starter, with strong interpersonal skills and a 'can-do' attitude.
Has good judgement, and can demonstrate commitment to high standards of ethics, regulatory compliance, customer service and business integrity.
Ability to work comfortably autonomously and as part of a team.
Comfortable dealing with all levels of the business and creating strong relationships with stakeholders
