Student Support Worker – Barnsley College - Variable hours - £11.89 per hour

The Department of Learning for Living and Work is seeking a new Student Support Worker to contribute to the effective delivery of a varied programme of personal and curriculum support, for learners with individual learning needs and disabilities. This role is due to commence 25th August 2024, with interviews being held in July.

Student Support Worker

Our new Student Support Worker will actively promote social inclusion, working with individuals or small groups of learners to ensure that they are able to access the College and the curriculum.

Can you help us to maintain our outstanding status? We are looking for a Student Support Worker to assist learners in classrooms or other working environments, providing 1:1 support tailored to their individual learning needs. You will also work collaboratively with staff to contribute to the continuous improvement of the service.

Main duties include:

* Meet and greet students each morning

* Provide navigation assistance for students to access learning spaces, break out areas and canteen facilities

* Literacy and numeracy assistance within the classroom

* Support with motivation, engagement, participation and behaviour management

* Developing students’ independence skills and how to develop positive relationships

* Occasional requirement to support with personal care needs

* Safe practices of moving and handling others (training provided)

* Facilitate outside learning, community outreach, external trips, and working across other college sites

* Helping students to prepare for adulthood

The successful candidate will ideally have, or be willing to work towards:

* GCSE Maths and English Language

* Level 3 Teaching qualification AET/PTLLS

* Level 2 Health and Social Care

Barnsley College will provide tailored support to achieve further qualifications in this post. However, relevant or transferable work experience is required to be considered.
