As a Lead Engineer, you will:

• Serve as a technical role model, leading innovative and continuous improvement initiatives across distributed software systems.
• Provide technical leadership, driving the development and maintenance of cutting-edge software applications while guiding project discussions.
• Collaborate closely with product management to align engineering activities with product roadmaps, ensuring that development efforts meet business objectives and stakeholders/customer expectations.
• Emphasize empowerment and transparency, focusing on strategic, long-term organizational goals.
• Exemplify engineering excellence through active involvement in technical decision-making, conducting code reviews, ensuring quality assurance, and maintaining an active role as a code contributor to inspire the standards in others.
• Mentor and coach engineers to help them progress in their careers, adopt best practices, and motivate them to strive for the highest standards.
• Advocate for and implement best practices in software engineering, contributing to Architecture Decision Records.
• Promote sound engineering principles, uphold high standards across the team, and provide mentoring to individual team members.
• Devise measures for application performance, build systems to apply them to ensure a high level of observability across the estate, and consult with individual teams to help them achieve their performance goals.

What you'll bring

• Extensive and varied experience of software engineering and architecture.
• Expert-level coding skills in multiple programming languages, with full-stack competence and depth in at least one area such as backend/frontend with DevOps. Hands-on experience is crucial.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to developers at all levels, non-technical stakeholders, and senior executives with meaningful metrics.
• A strong record of leading technical initiatives that result in measurable impacts and change.
• Track record of increasing the technical capability of teams.
• Good understanding of Agile frameworks, foundational architectural and engineering concepts, API designs and agile best practices.
• Ability to quickly prototype and demonstrate concepts, showcasing the practical application of your ideas.

Our core responsibility is to ensure seamless, uninterrupted service and the fastest possible response times for delivering content to millions of clients across the globe, including in the UK, Italy, Germany, the USA, and Australia. As Comcast-Sky continues to grow, our global reach will expand even further. We operate in an agile environment and continue to refine our Ways of Working (WoW) to produce high-quality software to delivery customer and business value. Join our UK&I Technology team and you'll work across technology projects that drive our TV, mobile and Sky Connect services. You'll be at the heart of delivering the technology roadmaps that support our global businesses.
