Commercial Lawyer (Maternity Cover)

Location: Victoria, London

PQE- 4+ years (indication only) higher or lower PQE levels will be considered

Salary: up to £65k Pro rata - subject to experience

Working Hours: 9:00-18:00 between Monday to Friday

Holidays: 21 days holidays plus bank holidays

Start Date: circa 5 August (flexible a week before or week after)

Contract Type: Temporary Maternity cover

What we are seeking

Verisure has a new temporary opportunity for a Commercial Lawyer. We are seeking a talented, innovative passionate legal professional with data protection, marketing and/or consumer law and dispute experience to join our growing and successful legal team within the UK organisation. The role will report to the Senior Legal Counsel and will work closely with the UK team and functions (including sales, marketing, finance, operations and HR) as well as the Group Legal team.

The primary focus will be on commercial contract reviews, reviewing customer facing marketing material for compliance with CAP/BCAP codes, including emails, flyers, websites and our various marketing channels.  Experience in marketing regulatory compliance within a data protection (PECR and UKGDPR) framework is essential. There is also an opportunity to support a small case load of general commercial litigation.

Duties & Responsibilities

Mission 1: Essential - Enhance GTM strategy with data protection compliance regime

Prepare, maintain, and update data protection compliance documentation and dealing with relevant enquiries. Experience in this regard is essential.

Point of contact for Marketing consumer regulatory and privacy related enquiries, providing appropriate advice and guidance.

Conduct Privacy impact assessments as necessary for marketing campaigns and projects.

Deliver data protection related training across functions

Experience of working on consumer law matters and interactions with consumer law regulatory authorities is an advantage.

Engage with Lead Generation suppliers conducting DPIA’s and negotiating DPAs as required

Mission 2:  Commercial contracts review, negotiation and management of contract lifecycle:

Support the Marketing team and other functions in the review and negotiation of contracts.

Mitigate risks and organisational exposure through the review of contracts and customer facing material.

Manage the contract repository, update, and review contracts for renewal as necessary.

Mission 3:  Working with Group legal team

Participate in group initiatives to ensure alignment across global legal team.

Attend group driven meetings and projects.

Occasional European travel may be required in future.

Experience and Qualifications

University Law degree + LPC or equivalent legal professional qualification

Prior experience working in-house in a commercial/ corporate legal team required with good knowledge of data protection regulations and consumer rights

Minimum 4+ years PQE is preferred - level of PQE is for guidance only. All levels of PQE will be considered

Experience of working on consumer law matters and interactions with consumer law regulatory authorities is an advantage.

Experience in direct marketing regulatory framework within a data protection context (PECR, GDPR and UKGDPR compliance)

Understanding of Pay Per Click, display, social media and email marketing campaigns

Good knowledge and experience in commercial contract review, negotiation and contract life cycle management.

Ability to advise on commercial contract risks and data protection enquiries in simple and concise terms

CIPP/E CIPM certification is a bonus but not essential

Work collaboratively across various areas of business expertise: coordination and communication skills. Collaborative working is key!
