Major Recruitment are on the lookout for experienced Senior CNC Programmer to join our world leading client based in Altham. Our client is dedicated to producing high-quality products while maintaining a safe and efficient working environment.

The Senior Programmer will report directly to the Director of Engineering and their main purpose is to ensure efficient and effective production and maintenance of new and existing programs. Going beyond the provision of just 'programming', the person will be "actively involved" on the factory floor ensuring programs are suitable to complete manufacturing operations. Recognising that the provision of suitable, correct, and timely programs enables operations to minimise machine set-up time and maximise process run time, and that this needs to be done effectively across shift working. Importantly, the Senior Programmer will possess and demonstrate excellent engineering, manufacturing, and working practices and have a desire to improve the current ongoing solutions.

Hours of Work: 39 hours

The role is day shift; however, the post holder needs to have flexibility to work over a multiple of shifts which may be on a rotation.

Days: Mon to Thurs 07:30 a.m. to 4.30pm, Friday 07:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm
Twilight: Mon to Thurs 3:45 p.m. to 12.00 am, Friday 12:00 p.m. to 6.00 pm
Nights: Mon to Thurs 09:30 pm. to 07:00 am, Monday to Thurs 10.00pm to 7.30amSalary: 40k (negotiable dependent on experience)

The Role of the Senior CNC Programmer:

The Senior Programmer will spend a high majority of their time, "hands-on" in the development and implementation of programs used on CNC machine tools, including many wide and varied manufacturing processes. The Senior Programmer will use his/her knowledge and experience of engineering and manufacturing to help introduce and integrate new products smoothly into manufacture.

The Main Tasks of CNC Programmer are Outlined Below:

Using various CAM packages including SmartCAM and GibbsCAM the Senior Programmer's role will include creating, implementing, and maintaining programs for use on various manufacturing processes.
Using Creo (ProEngineer), the role demands the Senior Programmer to be proficient at interrogating models to produce programs for complex machined profiles on milling, turning and turn/mill machines.
The role will require programs and methodologies to be developed for various manufacturing processes using the specific and bespoke software.
To ensure all routings are accurate, simple to understand and up to date, routed cost effectively. Undertaking estimating of product costs for sales will build this knowledge.
Assist with compiling machining time for quoting for new work including undertaking estimating of product costs for sales and directors as appropriate.
Support Engineering activities when necessary.

Scope:

Already time served and experienced, the successful engineer will be given the additional training required to enable them to fulfill the responsibilities of the role, particularly regarding the different manufacturing processes and bespoke software use.

Skills and Abilities:

Ability to understand various machine and process protocols (ideally Fanuc, Okuma, Mazak, Mitsubishi, etc.),
It is essential that the person can validate generated software program and make productive modifications to them when and where necessary as part of ongoing continuous improvement.
Ability to demonstrate extensive engineering knowledge, from primary forming processes, through to realisation of end product.

Knowledge/Experience:

He/she will have served a practical engineering apprenticeship.
He/she will have previously held an engineering production/manufacturing role and gained significant experience post apprenticeship.
Proven track record of using computers and computer software packages to generate CNC programmes.
Has excellent understanding of engineering drawings, geometrical tolerancing and dimensioning.
Has an excellent understanding of engineering tooling required to manufacture engineering components.
Drawings, geometrical tolerancing and dimensioning.
Tools, cutters, inserts and work holding methodology both existing and emerging.
Engineering materials including stainless steel and some exotics such as Inconel, Super Duplex and Titanium, and able to optimise the cutting performance and processing of such materials.

The Person:

The person has the ability to demonstrate a depth of engineering knowledge that determines why quality, attention to detail, and a 'right first time' approach is essential.
The person can work to program standards and, by working within company policy and procedure, understand how their job role adds value to the company.
A multi axis machining background would be beneficial.
The person has the foresight to understand changing what we do today to improve what we could do tomorrow and be able to explain that to others.

Qualifications:

Minimum HNC in Mechanical Engineering.
A Full Time Served Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in addition to significant industrial experience
